Breathing new life into old memories

Restore Faded, Torn, or Damaged Photos in Rotherham and South Yorkshire

Restoration of your damaged and faded photographs

Do you have cherished old photographs that are torn, faded or stained? Even if they've been carefully stored, physical photos naturally deteriorate over time - colours fade, edges crack, and the surface can suffer from moisture or light damage.

That's where I come in.

With expert digital restoration, I can repair and revitalise your old photos, replacing missing sections, removing scratches, rebuilding detail and even adding colour to black and white or sepia images. The results are often remarkable - and make for meaningful gifts or keepsakes to be shared with family for generations to come.

Whether it's a war-time portrait, a childhood memory, or a damaged wedding photo, I treat each restoration with care, skill and precision.

Common restoration services include:

  • Dust and scratch removal
  • Rip, tear and crease repair
  • Stain, mould, dirt and water damage removal
  • Pen, paint and biro mark removal
  • Repairing faded photographs
  • Rebuilding missing or damaged areas
  • Correcting colour casts
  • Adding colour to black and white or sepia images
  • Converting colour/sepia images to black and white

The restored photo is provided as a high-resolution digital file ready to print or share. You can also order professional-quality prints directly from me at competitive prices.

Thank you. You really did an amazing job with this[photo].

Rob D., Sheffield

Carol did a brilliant job colouring an old black and white photo, despite not having a good copy to work on. Mum is really pleased with the result. Highly recommended.

Important Information

These prices are guidelines only. Each image is assessed individually based on the extent of restoration or colouring needed. More severely damaged photos will require longer restoration time and may incur higher costs. Even “simple” photos can take several hours to restore and colour by hand.

All prices include a high-resolution digital file of the finished image. Physical prints are available at extra cost.

Colouring is charged separately and is only carried out once restoration is complete.

Work begins only after costs have been discussed and agreed.

*Scanning Tips

  • Carefully clean off any surface dust (a soft makeup brush is ideal for this)
  • Ensure you image is laid flat on the scanner
  • Even if your photograph is black and white or sepia chose the 'colour photograph' mode. If possible, scan as 16-bit colour ('high bit colour mode' - you should be able to find this out from your scanner's manual or Google!)
  • Scan in high resolution; images should be scanned at a minimum of 300Dpi (dots per inch). For smaller images, the Dpi will need to be higher. As a general rule, measure the shortest side of the image. Then, starting with a figure of 2400Dpi, divide this by 2 for every increase in 2 inches. For example, 1-2inches = 2400Dpi, 3-4inches = 1200Dpi, 5-6inches = 600Dpi - but never go below 300Dpi.
  • Use 'optical resolution' not 'interpolated'.
  • Do not use the 'Quick Scan' button - the default settings on this option will produce a low-quality scan. Once you have entered your settings above use the 'Scan' option on your software rather than the button on the machine as it will reset to default and undo all your changes.
  • Save your file as a low compression JPG or a TIFF file which has no compression.
  • Once you have your saved file attach it to an email - do not embed it by dragging and dropping as this can affect the received quality.

Local Collection/Return Service

If you do not have a scanner or cannot otherwise provide a high quality digital file of your photograph I offer a collection and return service for all 'S' postcodes which is charged at 50p per mile each way.
